Although he has lived most of his adult life as a teacher or college professor,
Greg Herriges is best known for his novels and short fiction publications. He grew up in
Highland Park, Illinois and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in the 1950's and 60's, playing in rock bands
and eventually writing for and recording with a psychedelic group, Athanor.
Herriges taught English in an inner city high school in Chicago throughout the 1970's and 80's.
He appeared on several Chicago television shows during that time, including ABC's pre-Oprah "A.M. Chicago,"
as a spokesperson for teenage gang members. His gang odyssey, "Inherit The Streets" appeared in
The Chicago Tribune Magazine in March of 1978.
The 1980s brought marriage and a son, as well as book and movie deals with St. Martin's Press, Avon,
William Morrow, and Michael Levy Productions. Today Herriges teaches writing and literature at a midwest
college, and lives with his family in a small community outside of Chicago.
His novel,'Winter Dance Party Murders' and his stories have been nominated for both the Pushcart Prize and
the Phillip K. Dick Science Fiction Award.
